David Wali Waugh, RPC (Registered Professional Counsellor), Midlife Awakening Specialist, Sufi Healer and Mentor, is the director of Elements Counselling in Vancouver. He is also the co-founder of the Meaningful Life Design Center Ltd. He has over twenty years training and experience in wholistic psychospiritual development. His private practice includes one-to-one, couple and small group work for people interested in transformation, psychospiritual development and relationship transformation. His general orientation is to assist people in accessing their inner resources in order to develop more conscious choice in their lives, and thereby foster the potential for growth in their evolution of consciousness. This often unfolds as one develops deeper connection and awareness that leads to greater individuation, while contributing their gifts to their community and the world. He believes that if we want meaningful change to happen in others, we must first learn to practice the perspective that Gandhi espoused, “becoming the change that we seek in the world.”
Presently Dave is in his late fifties and has been living in Greater Vancouver BC on the beautiful West Coast of Canada for the past 37 years. Home is in Kitsilano, close to the ocean and is shared with his beloved wife/life partner/friend.
Dave co-facilitates retreats annually for men around the theme of soulful friendship, healing and creativity. He also co-facilitates annual mixed retreats for men & women around these themes. In addition, he facilitates local ongoing groups in psychospiritual process and meditation.
In the past, Dave has worked as a counselling instructor in a three-year training program at Langara College in Process Counseling. He also worked as a senior’s program coordinator in a community center for seven years. While in this position he co-created health fairs for senior men and women which were extremely popular. He facilitated two weekly groups – one for frail elderly women, and the other for retired men that fostered a sense of camaraderie and support. Dave also was the owner of a successful electrical service company for over 10 years with a staff of up to 13 people.
WHOLISTIC PSYCHOTHERAPY, SUFI HEALING & MENTORING:
As a Mentor and Wholistic Psychotherapist, the approach that Dave uses is a soulful creative blend of different counselling modalities that together comprise the discipline of Mentoring and Wholistic Psychotherapy. It is an integrative approach that honors body, mind, heart and consciousness. It looks to the client’s unfolding process for direction in which method is applicable for their particular situation and where they are at in their process. The goal is to access inner resources that support deeper intimacy and the conscious awareness process for the development of true free will. Over time this can assist the individual, couple or group to develop the potential to grow in their evolution of consciousness and unfold toward individuation while fostering deeper intimacy and contribution in the community and the world.
The mentors for Dave’s training and process in Mentoring and Psychotherapy have been many but the two local counselling therapists with whom he studied and had sessions with the most were Ian McNaughton PHD (Bodynamics, Gestalt, Family Systems, Focusing & EMDR) and David Roomy MA, (Jungian Psychotherapist and Process Work Diplomat.)
Dave has major certificates in two, three-year Counselling-training programs, one in Client Centered Counselling and another in Process Work (Track III). This led to a part time teaching position in a three year counselling training program called “Process Counselling” offered at Langara College in Vancouver. Dave also has various other certificates related to counselling, psychotherapy and spirituality: Gestalt, Meditation in Counselling, Conflict Resolution & Voice Dialogue (The Psychology of Selves & The Aware Ego Process). Dave is also a graduate of the Wilderness Leadership Program from Capilano University in North Vancouver.
Dave also has training as a Sufi Healer and apprenticed with the Leader of the Sufi healing Order in the U.S., Himayat Inayati. This led to graduation from a four year training to become a certified Raphaelite Work Practitioner.
For almost 20 years Dave has been receiving training and spiritual guidance from Sufi Teacher and Psychotherapist Thomas Atum O’Kane. This led to graduating from his two year training program in the Art of Spiritual Guidance. Dave also assisted him in another two year program of the same name. He has since attended numerous additional graduate programs with him including a one year training called The Soul of Christianity.
Dave is also a Certified Belief Closet Facilitator which is a creative process that can transform persistent beliefs that can distort how we see and experience reality.
As a Midlife Awakening Specialist Dave helps adults who want to discover inner resources to clear barriers to discovering their essential gifts so they can their shift their midlife crisis into a quest for meaning and purpose that unfolds into a midlife awakening process. Over time this can lead to more vitality, deeper intimacy and a greater sense of meaning and purpose.
As a Meaningful Life Design Mentor Dave assists busy professionals to get clear direction toward creating a dynamically balanced life of meaning and prosperity.
